Department for Children, Schools and Families working in partnership with EACH
As co-author of the Department for Children, Schools and Families’ guidance to schools "Safe to Learn: Homophobic Bullying", EACH is welcoming an increase in requests for its training from the Education, Criminal Justice and Health Services.
"Safe to Learn: Homophobic Bullying" was launched in 2008 with major promotional events staged in London and Leeds - raising people's awareness of the existence of this vital resource to help teachers and other education professionals challenge homophobic school bullying.
The Anti-Bullying Alliance are among many organisations delighted to see the creation of this guidance, written in partnership by EACH and Stonewall. Gill Frances, former Director of Well-being at the National Children's Bureau commented:
“We are so pleased that we now have such strong anti-homophobic bullying guidance from Government. No young person should feel frightened and threatened - all students can now feel safer knowing that school staff can address homophobic bullying with confidence and support from government.”
"Even casual use of homophobic language in schools can create an atmosphere that isolates young people. This new package will give school staff the knowledge and skills to intervene effectively in all cases of bullying, helping to develop a zero tolerance culture towards bullying."
Ed Balls MP, Secretary of state, Department for Children, Schools and Families
EACH has also contributed to other guidances in the suite: "Safe to Learn" which are all available on the Government's website Teachernet.
